Of Might and Magic: Strong Opening, Weak Closing Pt. 1: Intro

[As Read on GIO.]

Some Serious Reboots and Some Stale Sequels

No- contrary to the title, which could lead you to believe so, this particular blog post is not about the Might and Magic series of games, rather about 2013 as a year for gaming thus far, eleven months in and looking to close shortly. We’ve seen some excellent titles, particularly in the first half of the year, and some ehhh, not so great ones now in this second half. So far, in my mind, the first half is in the lead- however, as close as it is to wrapping up, this game is far from over or finished. So, I’m going to talk about some major or slightly more interesting gaming examples for the year so far, as well as some promising future candidates- should they live up to expectations. 2013 has certainly been a big year for titles released and quality, but not all have had excellent review scores, as I will show momentarily…

Now, those were some of the so-called ‘big’ or expected to be big game releases this year, some indie developed games included. I have highlighted a few games from each month, or none at all if none were applicable to me, in order to talk about and showcase my points here. They are as follows, if you don’t feel like scrolling back through:

-Dead Space 3 (DS3)

-Tomb Raider (TR)

-Bioshock Infinite (BI)

-Metro: Last Light (MLL)

NEXT TIME: I will actually go into depth about what I’ve laid out in this introductory blog here, and give you my reasons for why I believe- despite some strong closers, that the first half of the year has outcompeted the second. Thanks, and be sure to check back later for part two.
